About a hundred million individuals volunteer each year, and the value of their service is estimated to be around $150 billion. Being a volunteer can help an organization save money on its operations. It can also help it provide better client services and increase its contact with the community. Without the help of volunteers, organizations would not be able to have the impact they do. Through their service, volunteers help their communities by providing vital services that can help improve the quality of life for their residents. They can also advocate for their fellow citizens and provide them with the necessary resources to prosper. The bigger the organization, the more need there is for helpers.

A larger budget is helpful for an organization’s various expenses, such as event sponsorships. It can also provide additional staff support services. One of the most significant advantages of having more resources is that it allows smaller organizations to access the same opportunities as larger organizations. The staff capacity of an organization can also affect the type of work it can do. For instance, if a volunteer with a large national organization decides to move to a small local organization, he can focus on the big picture instead of feeling lost in the weeds.

With a larger organization, the company’s day-to-day operations are more formal. Larger teams need to find less personal ways of communicating with each other. Team meetings replace one-on-one chats. The importance of structures and processes designed to accommodate the different members of an organization is also more apparent in larger organizations. Small organizations tend to get done more quickly due to the lower number of levels of approval that they need. Having more approval levels can sometimes be a good thing, as it can help prevent mistakes and improve the quality of work that an organization produces.
